Extract: »Based on Jewish Ego-Documents—diaries, memoirs, and interviews—this chapter examines the different forms of interactions between the Red Army soldiers and Jewish female survivors from Romania toward the end of World War II (ranging from liberation, aid, romance, to bartering and rape), the fears and anguish experienced by women Holocaust survivors and their families and communities, and their strategies to avoid rape. I will also analyze Jewish men’s perspectives and responses to rape, including some men’s indifference and even endorsement and possible complicity in such crimes« (Source: Article, p. 247)
